US president Barack Obama is expected to visit Kenyatta University on Sunday as he concludes his tour of Kenya. A police statement issued today indicates Obama will tour the main campus of Kenya’s second oldest university, based on Thika Road.
“On Sunday, Limuru Road and the Thika Superhighway will remain closed from morning hours when the U.S. President addresses the nation at the Safaricom Indoor Arena in Kasarani before visiting Kenyatta University,” a statement from traffic police head said.

Many had expected Obama to visit the University of Nairobi, which is the biggest and oldest in Kenya, and known globally. UoN students, through SONU chairman Babu Owino, have been throwing overtures to the US government to have the president visit the institution.
Some UoN students today burned a tree planted by Obama in 2006 to protest against the use of KU as landing ground for US security helicopters.
