MultiChoice Africa has announced that it will not increase the cost of subscription for on its DStv and GOtv platforms in 2017. Every year on 1 April, MultiChoice announces its annual subscription price increase on both DStv and GOtv. This year, however, subscribers in Kenya have been given some relief.

The company made this decision to keep annual subscription prices at their current level, despite a particularly tough year due to a number of harsh macro-economic factors in the markets it operates in on the continent, Multichoice said in a statement. From falling commodity and oil prices which affected economies and exchange rates and the ever-rising costs of satellite capacity, there has been a number of external economic issues that have created challenges.

“However, we recognize that we’re not the only ones feeling the pinch,” said Philip Wahome, MultiChoice Kenya Corporate Affairs Manager. “Our customers are also suffering so we want to do our bit to relieve the added financial pressure by not increasing the price of their annual subscriptions.”

Just recently, the company added more value to its customers’ television experience by bringing one of the most coveted football leagues in the world, the FA Cup, to all DStv packages. Others include the ongoing Big Brother Naija, which is also available across all DStv packages and the recently-launched James Bond Pop-Up channel.

GOtv was also not been left behind. The platform added more value by bringing the rest of the FA Cup season to GOtv Plus last month. This March, GOtgetters on GOtv Plus can catch the Emirates FA Cup as it heats up on Select 2 as well as latest telenovelas on Telemundo, the 2017 award season glitz and glam coverage on E! Entertainment, riveting soapies on Zee World and more local and international sports coverage on the SuperSport channels, available on the DTT platform.
