January has always been a dry month, especially after the merry-making festivities that precede the month, which has seen the first month of the year christened as Njaanuary to bring the ‘hunger’ side of it. With first term school fees and other expenses lurking, people have always tried applying survival nous to outsmart the January’s financial woes. Corporates have taken advantage of advancing their sales and citizen relationships, tapping on the dry pockets and Nakumatt has not been left behind.

The chain store has awarded over 3,000 shoppers with school fees cheques valued at Kshs43 million under the Nakumatt Smart Points redemption initiative. This project, part of the loyalty points’ redemption with the retailer, has seen the supermarket redeem customers’ smart points at the rate of Kshs2 per point with a 10% added bonus as part of the supermarket’s support for education. The programme allows Nakumatt shoppers to redeem their accumulated Smart points for school fees cheques drawn in favour of their school of choice.

“Nakumatt’s contribution to academic advancement is borne out of the popular demand by a majority of our smart shoppers,” Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah said. “Alongside this programme, we shall continue extending a number of other reward programmes for our customers’ as we remain grateful for their loyal patronage.”

With the programme growing at a mega speed, Nakumatt predicts that its shoppers are likely to draw out cheques valued at more than Kshs120million by the close of the year confirming the programmes growing popularity.

Following the 2013 launch of a new generation Nakumatt Global Prepaid MasterCard loyalty card, in partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank and Diamond Trust Bank, the retailer has been actively replacing its old generation smart cards with a new Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV compliant loyalty card.

The new generation multi-currency Nakumatt Global Prepaid MasterCard loyalty card provides a range of enhanced benefits and security features. Nakumatt Global Prepaid MasterCard cardholders also earn smart points for purchases made with the card at any of the over 35.9 million acceptance points, including 2.1 million ATMs, where MasterCard is accepted worldwide.
