Nairobi to get Ksh40m facelift ahead of Obama visit

The Nairobi City County government will spend Ksh 40 million to spruice up the capital  ahead of US president Barack Obama’s visit in July 2015.

The money will go towards planting trees, flowers and road maintenance from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Westlands. According to Leah Oyake, Nairobi County Chief Environmental Officer, between city centre and Imara Daima more than 2,000 trees have been planted. Workers are also planting flowers.

Billboards of Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero that will be erected at the JKIA exit. Mombasa Road between Bunyala and Nyayo roundabout is getting a make over. Currently, the Urban Green Landscapers  are laying a concrete slab. They plan to construct undulating contours and grass beds and pebble rocks on both sides.

Obama is set to attend bilateral meetings and the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July.
