A woman whose eldest son was kidnapped and brutally murdered five years ago was on Saturday also murdered in Nairobi’s Buruburu estate. Ms Marciana Ochieng, a retired teacher, was attacked at her residence in Ngomeni Court, Buruburu Phase III by unknown attackers who also stole household goods.

The deceased’s son Mr George Victor Owino told the police that he left for work, leaving her mother in the house alone. However, when he went back home at around 2.30pm, he said, he found his mother locked in the kitchen with both her legs tied and a piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth.

He called her sister and they rushed her to the Metropolitan hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Five years ago, her eldest son was also kidnapped from the same house by unknown people and was later found murdered. Investigations were launched but no suspects were arrested.

Police said that the watchman had been grilled but had not given any crucial information. According to the watchman, some men drove into the compound in a vehicle and said that they wanted to see Ms Ochieng.

They spent about 30 minutes in the house before they left. The family would later learn that the men also carried away household goods including TVs, laptops, among other things. The watchman, however, did not interrogate the strangers nor record their vehicle’s registration number.

The postmortem conducted on Monday revealed that the deceased was suffocated to death. The Chief government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor said that the attackers had stuffed some material on her nose and much, leading to the suffocation. Other samples were also collected for further analysis after preliminary investigations pointed to a sexual attack before the murder.
