Have you ever imagined having an app on your phone that converges all social media applications into one ecosystem? Well, that is elefone!

The application, developed by Rapid Communications, a mobile apps company and telecommunications solutions provider, enables users to chat, share videos, call, walkie-talkie, create groups for chats and share information for free.  “Users and corporate organizations can create a newsfeed and share information on what is trending in their industry with their elefone subscribers,” says Mr Aninda Dutta, Rapid Communications’ director of business development for Middle East and Africa.

Now available on iOS and Android devices, the company is working on an App for Windows Phones which are penetrating the Kenyan market at a dizzying speed. “Elefone can be downloaded from www.elefone.co.ke and incorporates features that are available in other apps, bringing them under one roof,” added Mr Dutta.

The app will allow you to enjoy features like push to talk, create a friends’ circle, free VoIP calling and Group chat, for social friends. Rapid Communications launched the app during a product demo with other products showcased during the event being Vooka and TuAsk.com. Vooka, a mobile streaming platform, offers online video content on smartphones.

The company has partnered with digital content provider, Startimes, to stream selected channels online on subscription basis on the Vooka online platform. The app allows one to subscribe to certain channels at Ksh5 per day through mobile phone, with unlimited subscription going for Ksh10 per day.

The subscription is deducted from your airtime. “After bringing Startimes on board, we will partner with other content producers to add more content to the platform, including musicians who want to promote their videos,” noted Mr Dutta.

TuASk provides users with an online business directory to help users find relevant providers and services to meet their everyday needs. “Businesses such as hospitals, malls and schools can get their contacts and reviews listed on the TuAsk database,” noted Ms Lucy Okubi from the communications company.  “Our site provides fast, reliable and comprehensive information to users and connects buyers with sellers. The service providers can in turn read customer review reports from the site,” she says.

Users can assess the directory through www.tuask.co.ke or call a 24-hours call centre. The directory is still under review and once it is fully developed users can even access maps to different places. “In future, based on the traffic, we’ll invite businesses to advertise on the site with a direct link to your business’ site and social media pages,” noted Ms Okubi.
