KNA launches online photo archive

The Kenya News Agency (KNA) will tomorrow launch its online historical photos archive, www.urithi.go.ke, in Nairobi. The exhibition contains ‘never-before seen images’ on Kenya’s rich history dating back to the 1940’s. The Urithi portal is the first historical public portal.

The portal has a collection of over a million historical images in addition to videos and text documents gathered from the Kenya News Agency and KBC archives a well as from museums. Through the user- friendly Urithi portal  the rich repository of Kenya’s historical multimedia records will now be easily accessible to the public to view, buy and use.

The ICT Authority together with the Department of Information has been conducting mini launches of the online historical portal through a series of public awareness events/exhibitions in different towns since October. The towns include Machakos, Muranga, Nakuru, Mombasa, Maralal and Kisumu. The Nairobi exhibition will be taking place from 7th to 10th of December.

The portal will be launched by the PS Ministry of Information, communication & Technology Mr. Victor Kyalo.
