A Nairobi-based businessman has sought police intervention in recovering a Ksh1 million debt from Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.

Businessman Dan Simiyu says in a report to Central Police CID officers that he supplied Didmus Barasa with furniture for his Riverside drive house in Nairobi. He says several months after furnishing the house, the first term MP has defaulted on payment.

He recorded a statement at Central police station in Nairobi under OB number 67/14/05/2018.

Mr Simiyu, who deals in furniture, says he supplied the items based on an LPO from the MP on 16th December 2017 for six leather seats, a six-seater dining table, glass coffee table, TV stand as well as two high density mattresses and one bed.

“The MP signed the deliveries and acknowledged receipt. He told me I will be paid as soon as possible. But now he does not pick my calls and efforts to meet him have been futile,” Mr Simiyu said.

He added that since the LPO had been generated from the CDF office, he went to the Kimilili CDF offices for payment but was told the document was fake.

Mr Simiyu wants the MP arrested and charged with obtaining goods under false pretence. “We will summon him here to record a statement and explain to us why he issued a fake LPO. If he doesn’t honour the summons, we will be forced to go for him,” said a CID officer handling the matter.

The police said another businesswoman, Ms Loise Ambasa, had also lodged a complaint after she was allegedly conned by the MP.

When reached for comment, Ms Ambasa said the MP borrowed Ksh300,000 from her then issued her with bouncing cheques. “I have been pushing him to. He never picks my calls and I was forced to report him to the police,” Ms Ambasa said.
