Former head of Public Service Francis Kimemia (pictured above) has been let off the hook by the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP.
The DPP announced today that there was not enough evidence to prosecute Mr Kimemia from the file presented to it by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC. Kimemia’s reprieve comes just a few weeks after he was sacked from his position as Secretary to the Cabinet.
Interior Principal Secretary Monica Juma, a career ambassador and former university lecturer, was named by President Kenyatta, to take over his position. Kimemia had stepped aside to allow for investigations after he was named by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission over alleged graft.
The move by the DPP came just a few hours after Siaya Senator James Orengo was also released by the DPP for lack of evidence. The DPP also dropped charges against Narok Senator Stephen Ole Ntutu and four other MPs this week.
On the other hand, it has prosecuted MPs Alfred Keter and Sonia Birdi. Thus far, of the 175 cases mentioned by the EACC it has received 18 files and acted on all of them.
“The DPP has to date received from EACC 18 out of 175 files on the List of Shame and given decisions on all of them,” the DPP’s office said Friday.
