Two of the most influential journalists at Nation Media Group and in the media industry at large have retired. Jaindi Kisero and Macharia Gaitho have taken early retirement from Daily Nation and will leave at the end of August, it was announced today, but will continue writing their columns.

“Both Jaindi and Macharia requested to retire early and we have reluctantly accepted their requests,” Mr Tom Mshindi, the editor-in-chief of the Nation Media Group says in a memo released today to staff.
Mr Jaindi was managing editor economic affairs and writes a weekly column in Daily Nation on Tuesday and Business Daily on Thursday. He is one of the longest serving journalists at Nation and a respected authority in business journalism.

Mr Gaitho, who was managing editor for special projects and chief leader (editorial) writer, is an opinion shaper especially on political matters through his column and an excellent writer to boot. He is known in Daily Nation circles as a sober mind in a newsroom infested with biases and a fierce inhouse critic.

“It’s not easy leaving a family, but I opted take voluntary early retirement because after more than 15 years of this service, there was need for change,” he says in a letter to Nation staff. “Fortunately management responded favourably to my request, and August 31 will be my last day of work in this great outfit.”
