Barack Obama’s visit to Kenya is very significant. First, it’s the first visit by a sitting US President to Kenya and, second, Kenya is home to Obama’s father. The presidents’ itinerary is closely guarded with only a few details being issued.

Air Force One, the president’s official plane, is scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in the evening. Obama and his team will then head to a Nairobi hotel for the night. Details of the hotel are yet to be announced understandably for security reasons.

In the morning, Obama will address the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) at the United Nations Complex in Gigiri which is expected to have about 3,000 participants. Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta is the only president confirmed to accompany him to the main reason for his visit. Other regional heads may also attend the Summit.

The president’s plan on this day remains confidential but sources say he may take a trip to his father’s village in Kogello, Siaya county. Earlier information indicated that Obama will be in the Western part of Kenya for three hours but both Kenyan and American authorities could not confirm.

At 7pm, the president will leave for Ethiopia where he will address the African Union.
