General Motors East Africa has expanded its Chevrolet portfolio with the launch of the all new Chevrolet Utility, a three-quarter tonne pick-up, into the East African market.
“The Chevrolet Utility, which has been built in South Africa, has been engineered and developed to meet the requirements of our markets”, said Rita Kavashe, Managing Director of General Motors East Africa (GMEA). “Furthermore, the pick-up has been the market leader in its segment of the market in South Africa for over 8 years in a row. We have no doubt that this product, given its great styling and versatility will also become a strong player in the segment of the market where it will be competing.”
The Chevrolet Utility is ideal for private buyers and business owners seeking a cost-effective vehicle for the transportation of small capacity loads in a stylish and modern package. Ms Kavashe said that the all new Chevrolet Utility would be launched in two different models: a 1.4L base and 1.4L base A/C and that it would be available for sale through GM East Africa’s extensive dealer network from June 2013 in the Kenyan market and subsequently in the larger Eastern Africa market.
“The new pick-up offers contemporary styling, interior space, a high level of interior appointments and comfort, passenger safety, cutting edge technology and excellent load carrying capability that is ahead of the opposition.”
The launch of the Chevrolet Utility adds to the portfolio of Chevrolet products which we have launched into this market since 2003. Our rapidly expanding Chevrolet vehicle portfolio combines performance, style and utility to create great driving experiences.
“A key priority for the company is to continue growing our business in the commercial segment of the market, and our entry into the three quarter ton segment with the Chevrolet Utility, is yet another step towards fulfilling this. I’m sure our customers will be delighted with the result, once they get the opportunity to drive and own this vehicle,” emphasized Ms Kavashe.
She said that in addition to the Chevrolet Utility launch, during the second half of 2013, GM East Africa will be launching the 6th generation Isuzu pick-up in East Africa.”This is a major launch for us and will go a long way in further growing our presence in this market.
Last year we achieved a 26% overall share of this market and year to date we are running at 24.5%.” “We are confident of the market opportunities in the East African region and together with our dealers, we will continue to focus on our customers as we strive to offer our customers great quality vehicles backed by outstanding levels of services.”
