CORD leaders who made remarks bordering on hate speech at the recent Uhuru Park rally called to push for the government to pay teachers the salary award could be arrested and prosecuted.
A multi-agency team has been formed to look into the Wednesday 23rd September, 2015 Uhuru Park utterances by politicians allied to the CORD in solidarity with striking teachers over government inability to pay 50-60% salary increment awarded to them by court.
Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko says the team comprises members from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU).
“The mandate of the team working under the supervision of the Inspector General is to investigate and find out if there was any criminal culpability by any person (s) who spoke during the rally by reviewing audio and video clip recordings during the event,” Mr Tobiko.
Once the team completes its investigations, it will hand over the file to the Inspector General of Police, who will in turn forward it to the DPP for perusal and further directions.
