Co-op Bank and Airtel in mobile banking partnership

NAIROBI, Kenya


Co-operative Bank of Kenya and Airtel have entered into a partnership that will enable Co-op Bank mobile money subscribers to deposit and withdraw money directly from their phones using their Airtel lines.

This service will also enable the customers to pay their utility bills, receive bank transaction alerts, check account balance and receive mini statements among other services. The service will be available to all registered Co-op Bank Mobile Money subscribers with Airtel lines.

Speaking during the launch of the service, Co-op Bank Director for Corporate and Institutional Banking, Tom Kariuki, said:“We are pleased to partner with Airtel to give our customers yet another way to access their money. Co-op Bank is always focused on providing its customers with flexible, convenient and easy access to their money. Now, Mobile Banking registered customers with Airtel lines can access their money from anywhere in the country at their convenience.”

Speaking about the partnership, Airtel Kenya Managing Director Mr Shivan Bhargava emphasized that “Airtel Kenya believes in the delivery of innovative and relevant solutions that make life easier for its customers by providing convenient and easy to use communication and mobile commerce products and services.”

He added that the company will also put emphasis on the education of its customers on the benefits of using Airtel Money mobile commerce solutions emphasizing that the product that uses the Kiswahili tagline ‘pesa mkononi’ literally translated to mean “Airtel money puts money into your hands.”

“We will continue to offer locally relevant and simplified solutions that our consumers can readily relate to in their daily lives in our true Kenyan spirit. “ Mr Bhargava asserted.

Co-operative Bank continues to be committed in ensuring that its 2.8 million customers can access their money at their convenience from any of the 105 branches, 450ATMs, 3,700 Co-op Kwa Jirani Agents and through various partnerships such as this; with Airtel Kenya.
