National Assembly’s Finance, Trade and Planning Committee has questioned the marital status of Mr Patrick Njoroge, the nominee for the Central Bank of Kenya governor position.
MPs asked the 54-year-old why he has never married, saying it is a sign that he fears taking risks. “I am single by choice and not ashamed to tell my grandma so. I have personal ideals to pursue. There are no sinister motives,” Mr Njoroge told the legislators on June 16, 2015 during the vetting.

Mr Njoroge, who is currently an advisor to IMF deputy managing director, told the panel that his 20-year absence from Kenya will not affect his work as CBK governor negatively. He said as a team player, he will seek help from others who understand local financial situations and will not force IMF ideologies on central bank.
If approved by Parliament, Njoroge will succeed Prof Njuguna Ndung’u whose tenure ended in March 2015 after serving the maximum of two four-year terms.
