The warrant of arrest issued against Tuskys supermarket Managing Director Stephen Mukuha was lifted today.

Senior Principal Magistrate Teresiah Murigi had issued the warrant against Mr  Mukuha on Monday last week after he failed to show up for the hearing of a case in which he is facing charges of assaulting his brother in 2012

The warrant was withdrawn following an application by Mr Mukuha’s Lawyer, who explained that the accused had not defied the court order but was out of the country on a business trip in China when the assault matter came up for hearing. Ms Mukuha is still in China, said the lawyer.

Mr Mukuha has been charged with assaulting his brother Yusuf Kamau in 2012 at Tuskys headquarters in Embakasi.

Mr Mukuha is said to have assaulted Kamau in full view of the other staff members, causing serious bodily harm.

The company has been rocked by a family feud claims after Mukuha, and George Kamau were charged with stealing over Ksh1.6 billion from the supermarket chain.

The court heard that the two stole Ksh400 million on diverse dates between 2002 and 2012 at Tuskys Headquarters on Mombasa Road.

They were also charged in a different court with stealing another Sh279 million on similar dates and place. The directors faced several other counts of stealing money from the supermarket.

Mr Ogembo released them on Ksh1 million cash bail or a bond of Ksh3 million plus one surety in a similar amount each. The matter will be mentioned on Wednesday and heard on July 12.
