Former TV journalist Richard Chacha is one happy guy after securing a new job.

Mr Chacha, who worked at Nation Media Group as political reporter and late editor with at NTV, has been appointed director of communications and public relations at the Mombasa County Government. “To the glory of God,” an excited Chacha said on his Facebook page, “I accept my appointment as director of communications and public relations in Mombasa County.”

Mr Chacha left NTV in June, saying he had retired from active journalism after his TV career was dealt a major blow following a tragic road accident three years ago that left him paralysed. The accident happened in 2012 when a team of Nation Media Group journalists were on their way back to Nairobi from Narok after a fundraiser.

After treatment in abroad, Mr Chacha resumed his work at NTV in a wheelchair but eventually called it a day four months ago. It is not clear whether he left of his own volition or was pushed out because of his condition.

This is a big show of magnanimity by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who seeks to prove that disability is not inability. “Thank you Governor 001 for having faith in me and to my friends I have been overwhelmed by your support prayers and encouragement,” Mr Chacha says.

Business Today congratulates Chacha and wishes him all the best in Mombasa.
