Pastor James Ng’ang’a, who spent two nights in police custody was released today on a Ksh500,000 cash bail, but not without drama around him.

A crew from KTN that had gone to cover a reported robbery at the pastor’s home in Karen, Nairobi, were attacked by a group of youth, with Cameraman Tom Nyongesa sustaining injuries. One of the attackers said to be Ng’ang’a’s herdsboy was reportedly wielding a machete.

The journalists had gone to the preacher’s home following reports that gunmen had raided it early Friday Morning and stolen an unspecified amount of money believed to be more than Ksh500,000. The gunmen are said to have gained entry into the house by cutting window grills at around 3.30am, before making away with the money and electronics.

Other journalists who had gone to  cover the story were advised to seek police escort from Hardy police station. The cameraman’s attack attracted outrage from other journalists including KTN news anchor Yvonne Okwara who said that Tom Nyongesa’s camera had also been confiscated.

Pastor Ng’ang’a was charged today with causing the death of Mercy Njeri on Sunday, July 26, 2015 in Manguo, Kiambu County.
