US marines arrive in Kenya as Obama security tightens

US marines have landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in two helicopters, the Star reports. A source at the airport said the Marines landed early on Saturday morning in  choppers.

He said they have taken over what used to be Jetlink hangar. Their arrival comes after members of the US Secret Service arrived in a US Air Force Jet on Tuesday. In addition, Three Bell 412 EP military helicopters have also been spotted at Wilson Airport.

Some 800 security officers will handle President Barack Obama’s security during the visit that is his first to his homeland. Kenya will provide a team of 2,000 security officers during the trip, with a contingent from the Recce Squad working directly with the Americans.

A number of armoured cars and ambulances were spotted at JKIA on Thursday. The cargo was transported from the airport escorted by Kenya Police. Three other security vehicles and several transportation trucks were also spotted in the city.
