Two writers fired as Business Daily corruption purge begins

Business Daily’s top editor has lived up to his promise of rooting out journalists he believes to be compromised by news sources.

Today, two writers were given dismal letters today morning for allegedly receiving inducements from story subjects and one more is expected to get his or her letter any time.

The writers, both ladies, are accused of taking bribes from news sources to write articles for them. One of the ladies in an inhouse correspondent on the real estate beat, while the other is an external general features writer based in Nairobi.

The letter by Business Daily Managing Director Ochieng Rapuro to the writers seen by BUSINESS TODAY says:

“As you are aware, receiving money or other favours from news sources or their agents is illegal. After six months of receiving information about your dealings with sources, I have been left with no alternative but to terminate your contract as a correspondent with Business Daily to save the newspapers’ reputation. Today is, therefore, your last working day with Business Daily and you are requested to handover any company property.”

Tension is still high on seventh floor at Nation Centre, where the business Daily newsroom is based, as communication flows out of the managing editor’s office one letter at a time.
