Ngilu faces court over Karen land scandal

Suspended Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu is accused of facilitating grabbing 13.4 acres in Karen, Nairobi.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recommended charges against suspended Lands minister Chairty Ngilu. It says she should be prosecuted over her role in the alleged grabbing of a 13.4-acre piece of land in Karen.

An EACC document forwarded to Director of Public ProsecutionKeriako Tobiko, senior government officials subdivided the Ksh8 billion public land illegally during Ngilu’s tenure as the minister. 

“Inquiry into allegations that top government officials, MPs, State/Public officers are among beneficiaries of the subdivided 13.4 acres of public land in Karen valued at Ksh8 billion, namely LR No 35861/31R31187 which has been double allocated to Horatious Da Gama Rose of Ms Mchanga Investments and Jos Konzolo of Telesource Ltd,” says EACCC in the file.

The anti-graft agency had cleared Ngilu over Waitiki land case in which she allegedly colluded with Evanson Waitiki, the owner, to inflate its price by Ksh110 million before selling it to the government. She is still being investigated over State House Crescent land case.

She will be the second minister to be charged after Eng. Michael Kamau, suspended Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary, who was arraigned in court for abuse of office.
