SEACOM upgrades to deliver gigabit internet speeds

SEACOM has upgraded its internet speeds to be accessed through its 10-gigabit and 100-gigabit ethernet ports at affordable prices.

Mr Mark Tinka, Head of Engineering at SEACOM, says the company is investing heavily in Ethernet, and using the fastest ethernet speeds of 1Gbps, 10Gbps and 100Gbps, customers will  enjoy much faster internet access.

“The benefit will be to any customer that buys IP/MPLS services from SEACOM, be they service providers or enterprises. In the case of customers who are service providers, their onward customers will enjoy a better internet experience; while for enterprise customers, the staff of that organisation will, similarly, enjoy a better internet experience,” he said.

Mr Tinka also noted that the upgrade will remove the artificial blocks caused by poor, slow internet bandwidth and spur innovation across the region.  “SEACOM strongly believe that good Internet access, in and of itself, is not the final goal. The final goal is what good internet access can do for you, the economy and your community. Once that is no longer an issue, society will have the basic platform, of fast Internet access, they need to see their innovations come to light.”

SEACOM has solved the international bandwidth problem by landing high speed fibre optic cables at the shores of Eastern and Southern Africa. What remained was getting that high speed capacity to the users. “This is gap that has long existed and SEACOM is doing its part in chipping away at this problem. This is one of the several reasons SEACOM embarked on this upgrade investment,”said Tinka.
