Anti-corruption agency chairman and vice suspended over graft

STATEMENT BY STATE HOUSE SPOKESPERSON ON THE EACC

FOLLOWING the Petition of ORIARO GEOFFREY dated 12th March 2015, desiring the removal from office of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on grounds specified in the said petition;

 AND FOLLOWING the Consideration of the said Petition by the National Assembly and the resolution that the petition discloses sufficient grounds for their removal to the satisfaction of the Assembly;

 NOW THEREFORE, pursuant to Article 251 (4) (a) of the Constitution, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has today suspended from the Office of Member and Chairperson, Mr Mumo Matemu; and from the Office of Member and Vice Chairperson of the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission, Ms Irene Keino.

 They are suspended from undertaking all functions and duties of those offices with immediate effect pending the outcome of the tribunal, which will be set up in accordance with the law.

 This process in no way hinders the work of the organization which remains constitutionally established and operational.
