Mrs Mealli Ali Vyakweli is the third Kenyan to receive Ksh1 million in the ongoing ‘Dunga Milli’ promotion from GOtv.
Mrs Vyakweli, 60, was awarded this morning after a rigorous draw in the third week of GOtv promo which targets people purchasing the company’s decoder. This is after her daughter surprised her with a GOtv set-top box last Sunday. “I bought the decoder on Sunday and registered it under my mum’s name,” said her daughter Fatuma Madi. “I personally use GOtv and I wanted to surprise my mother.”
Her mother would then call her to relay her gratitude terming it ‘zawadi ya mwaka’ ( gift of the year). Just a few minutes after the call, Mrs Vyakweli received a call from GOtv officials announcing her as the third winner of Ksh1 million.
“I’ve never won something before and I thank God for the gift of my daughter. I’ll use the funds to expand my grocery and build a house for myself. I’m also thinking of surprising my daughter for she won this for me,” said the millionaire.
GOtv has been awarding people in the last three weeks for going digital by purchasing their decoders. Apart from the weekly millionaire prize, the company has also daily prizes such as airtime and chances to win annual GOtv subscriptions.
“We’ll continue with this campaign for the next five weeks because we want to help people migrate to digital platforms which has numerous benefits,” said GOtv Kenya GM Felix Kyengo, adding that the company has already covered over thirty cities across the country.
