KQ gets another aircraft in fleet overhaul programme

Kenya Airways received its second B737-800 Next Generation aircraft in line with its ambitious fleet mordernisation programme.

The new aircraft touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Sunday at 1300 hours. Kenya Airways’ Group Managing Director and CEO Mbuvi Ngunze said that besides bestowing the pride of having the youngest fleet in the continent, the aircraft boasts of state-of-the-art features, including fuel efficiency.

“This aircraft adds to Kenya Airways new modern, fuel-efficient and economical portfolio of commercial jets. It will, alongside our other aircraft, contribute significantly towards reducing our operation costs. Cost containment remains a critical area of focus for the business at the moment,” Mr Ngunze added.

The B737-800 is the second of Kenya Airways’ such aircraft with Boeing Sky Interior. The airline expects four more such aircraft. It is one of the best-selling versions of the successful Next-Generation 737 family with a maximum range of 5,449 km and a cruise speed up to 848 km/h.

The 737-800, featuring the most advanced technology in wings, is a high-speed, fuel-efficient and low-noise model offering reliability, comfort and safety for passengers. The aircraft also has enlarged window surrounds, a contemporary coloured cabin interior and LED mood lighting enhancing the sense of spaciousness.

It adds to Kenya Airways’ fleet that includes B787 Dreamliners, B777-300ERs and Embraer E190 jets.
