NAIROBI – The process of picking the top CIO 100 finalists in East Africa in the adoption and application of technology has ended after weeks of sifting through applications. The panel is expected to announce the names of the finalists on Monday, Nov. 10,  but has already confirmed that Kenya and Tanzania have dominated the shortlist of 150 organisations from across East Africa.

The PwC-led adjudication panel says the battle for a slot in the top 100 got tighter with the highest number of applications being received this year since the awards began three years ago.

Mr Andrew Karanja, the director of the organizing secretariat, Kommunication Ultimate Ltd, said it is inspiring for more firms to embrace technology in improving their operations. “This trend is quickly spreading with better support system being put in place by private investors and governments,” he said.  “This is definitely what will put East Africa ahead of the other nations in terms of growth and development.”

The top 100 will be announced at a gala dinner to be held on the 14th of November at the Enashipai Resort in Naivasha. One of the top CIOs will be honoured for their excellence at managing the IT division in their organisation.

Other recognitions expected include the CIO 100 Green edge award, which honours breakthroughs in application of technology in the preservation of the environment. Last year, Kenya claimed top slot with Royal MediaServices emerging the overall winner while engineer Wainaina Mungai emerged the CIO of the year.

Rwanda’s AnacletKalibata the Director General of Immigration and Emmigration took the CIO Leadership award.
