Mr Richard Etemesi, the Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank has been re-elected as the chairman of the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) to watch over the Association’s operations for the next twelve months.

During its Annual General Meeting on Thursday last week, the body also nominated and elected the Association’s board of directors, known as the Governing Council, which will serve for a period of 12 months under the tutelage of Mr Etemesi and vice chairman Mr. James Macharia of NIC Bank.

Chief Executive Officer of KBA Mr Habil Olaka lauded the elected members thanking them for overseeing the Association’s activities.

“We thank the Governing Council and particularly the Chairman for the support they have provided the Association,” said Mr Habil Olaka.

In order to strengthen its involvement in policy and research, as well as stakeholder engagement, including the banking public, the Association approved plans to reposition the banking sector’s umbrella body.

“We are embarking on a new chapter. One that will consolidate our position as a leader on banking matters, an advocate for the growth and development of the industry, and a channel through which banks can collectively engage customers and society,” added Mr Olaka.
