Several vehicles belonging to the Machakos County government are grounded in private garages in Athi River town. They include those of police and county inspectorate.

Some still bear the registration numbers of the county government. The vehicles are among those assigned to regular and administration officers by the county. Those not branded were reportedly used by officers in other departments before they ended up in the garages.

A check by the Star in four garages on Thursday noted most of the vehicles had been involved in accidents. One mechanic said the vehicles have been in the garage for months. The garage had 15 county vehicles at time of the visit. “The county seems to have lost interest,” he said.
