USIU and Cisco Systems launch networking academy

USIU-Africa and Cisco Systems Inc. has launched the Cisco Networking Academy. This academy is a global education programme offering professional certifications leading to ICT careers such as network security and administration, technical support, and healthcare IT as well as higher education in engineering, computer science, and related fields.

The Academy will not only give the students an opportunity to enhance their understanding of the networking field , it will also be a platform for the students to experience and engage with rich content through  the integration of technical skill training in their curriculum to achieve a holistic outlook.

“We offer quality certification programmes in partnership with IBM, Microsoft, Linux, EC – Council, and our partnership with Cisco Systems is a great addition to our ever growing number of superior certifications that USIU-Africa offers. This certifications are an interlink of learning between the degree courses and practical skills that prepares the students for the dynamic ICT world,” said USIU Vice Chancellor Prof Paul Zeleza during the launch.

He said the partnership underscores the university’s commitment to invest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics programmes, which will fundamentally improve Africa’s competitiveness in technology development, and in turn transform society through new inventions.

The Cisco Networking Academy has equipped more than 5.5 million students in 165 countries with networking skills and the partnership with USIU-Africa provides a vital long-term solution in the form of creating a highly-skilled and well-trained local work force critical for accelerating and sustaining economic growth.



“Globally, the tremendous growth in information and communications technology makes it critically important that today’s employees are equipped for the future with the right skills to enable them to respond to the changing needs of our society,” said Cisco Corporate Affairs manager East, Central and Southern Africa, Hital Muraj.
