Police in Nyahururu are investigating a case in which a Laikipia University student was last evening found dead in his room. The lifeless body of John Nyamwange Ombuna, a third year bachelor of arts  student at the institution was found lying on his bed in a room he stayed alone outside campus.

Confirming the incident, Nyandarua North OCPD Timon Odingo said the 23 year old was under medication as “malaria drugs were found in his room.”

His father who hails from Kisii had tried reaching him in vain. He called a security officer at the university who traced him to his hostel a kilometer from the institution. “After several knocks that went unanswered, they broke in only to find him dead,” he noted adding that the body was moved to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital Mortuary.

A student at the institute, who sought anonymity, told KNA on phone that the lone ranger looked disturbed and had even deferred classes for a year. “He is believed to have killed his brother a year ago and the spirits have haunted him since,” she said, adding that he had just resumed studies this year, after a year’s break.

The university has witnessed several incidents where students who stayed outside the institution were found dead in unclear circumstances.
