President Kenyatta’s trip to Western Kenya turned ugly today when one of his chase cars hit and killed a 74-year-old man who had come to cheer him.

The accident occurred at Lutonyi area along the Kakamega-Mumias Road in Kakamega County after the president’s visit at Mumias Sugar Company. The car also injured the old man’s son.

President Kenyatta was at Mumias to officially deliver the Ksh1 billion bailout  for the cash-starved company and drum up change in the factory’s management.

This comes a few days after a vehicle in Deputy President William Ruto’s motorcade hit and injured children in Murang’a County. The two girls were part of the people who had come to cheer him, but were pushed onto the path of the vehicle as the crowd jostled for space.

They sustained bruises. Mr Ruto apologised to the family.
