Uhuru sacks Kimemia and appoints Eugene Wamalwa as minister

President Uhuru Kenyatta has this evening made major changes to the military and the government, most notably replacing Francis Kimemia as Secretary to the Cabinet and appointing a new Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.

CHANGES AT A GLANCE:

Samson J. Mwathethe has been promoted from Lieutenant-General to General and appointed Chief of the Defence Forces, succeeding General Julius Karangi who has retired. Gen Mwathethe was previously the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.

Lt-Gen Joseph K. Kasaon named Vice Chief of the Defence Forces. Lt-Gen Kasaon was the Army Commander. Major-General Leonard M. Ngondi promoted to Lieutenant-General and appointed Army Commander.

A Ministry of Water and Irrigation Services has been created and Eugene Wamalwa nominated as the Cabinet Secretary.

Amb Monica Juma nominated for the position of Secretary to the Cabinet, replacing Francis Kimemia.

Retired Major-General Gordon Kihalangwa nominated for the position of Principal Secretary, Department of Interior, Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government.

Nzioka Waita appointed as Secretary of Delivery in the Executive Office of the President.
