Leading regional retail Chain, Tuskys Supermarkets, has won a tender to serve food to over 5,000 KCB Foundation Tujiajiri programme interns who will be graduating today at Kasarani satdium. The event will be graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Tuskys beat a host of other bidders, thanks to its innovative Deli section that operates in more than half of its 55 branches spread countrywide. The Deli culture pioneer by Tuskys in the retail sphere with the ‘Fresh Concepts,’ has gained popularity. It gives customers an option of purchasing their favourite foods in different portions.
Unlike hotels and restaurants where the price of a particular dish is fixed, the deli gives customers a chance to get whatever they want based on the amount they have. “This is one of our best innovations that now rules the sector ,” said Tuskys Deli Manager Herbert Sibanda. “We have the capacity to deliver and exceed expectations on this one..”
The 5,000 interns will graduate from KCB Foundation’s Youth empowerment programme launched early last year to empower budding entrepreneurs to scale and upscale their business ventures. The program includes a 12-month incubation period where entrepreneurs have access to incubation and mentor-ship resources.
Entrepreneurs as well enjoy discounted financing to support business growth and are also linked to mentors, financial advisors and investors.
The Kasarani graduation event will also have exhibitions and display of hundreds of startup business ventures that are products of the Tujiajiri program. Some of the Tujiajiri beneficiaries who have been receiving training in various Tuskys branches at the Deli section, will get a chance to showcase the Deli on Wheels, a food truck/Tuk Tuk fully fitted with all kitchen equipment where live cooking can be done anywhere.
Tuskys was recently ranked among Top 20 elite brands in the region in the 2016/2017 Superbrands East Africa Edition compiled in conjunction with London-based Centre for Brand Analysis. Results were based consumer surveys and their perceptions about specific brands.
“We pledge to continuously improve and innovate solutions that respond to the needs of our customers. I thank KCB Foundation for having confidence in us to deliver on such high-profile event,” said the company’s CEO Dan Githua.
