Homeowners at Sultan Palace beach retreat, a leading luxury development in Kilifi County, will enjoy easy access to their property after the county government invested over Ksh100 million in upgrading major infrastructure leading to the development.
Kilifi County has started works to transform to bitumen standard a 2.5KM dirt road that leads directly to Sultan Place beach retreat, before December this year. The property’s general manager Liu Tiancai said the new road would not only benefit Sultan Palace but other developments and the community around.
“With the new road in place, home owners and holiday makers will conveniently access Sultan Palace beach retreat, which was previously a challenge. They used a much longer route to get to the facility or chose to use the dirt road that was very dusty, rugged and uncomfortable,” said Liu.
He said the poor state of the road discouraged property developers and depressed tourism. Liu added there is a huge demand for Sultan’s beach front villas, semi-detached duplexes and the condominiums at the coast but some of their customers had started looking at other options due to the poor road network. “We appreciate the county’s support and we shall continue working together to boost the growth of Kilifi County,” he said.
The development comes at a time when key tourism players in Kilifi County have been calling on the local government to improve infrastructure in order to boost local tourism and grow the economy. Kenneth Kazungu, the County Chief Officer for roads and infrastructure, said that Kilifi county government is committed to promoting local and foreign investments in the county through improved roads among other expansion plans.
“We are dedicated to supporting all investors coming to Kilifi County, by improving our infrastructure and the business environment,” he said.
Kazungu added that Kilifi government has confidence in Sultan Palace beach retreat, that the high-end, multi-billion facility will enhance tourism in Kilifi. Sultan Palace beach retreat, the first phase of the two-phase development will be concluded in December this year, marking the official handing over of the facility to home owners.
The retreat, which is thought to be the most exotic holiday home destination in Kilifi, will encompass an exclusive five star hotel, which according to Liu will be managed by a leading chain of hotels to be announced at a later date. Despite the infrastructural deficit, Sultan Palace has sold off-plan more than 150 out of the 210 beach front house units. This translates to over 65 percent of the units sold off. Liu is confident that the sales will hit 200 before December.
