Safaricom experienced a major outage of its services in parts of Nairobi on Wednesday morning, leaving subscribers offline with no access to calls, SMS and data services.

The company’s Corporate Affairs Director Nzioka Waita indicated that the outage has affected sections of Nairobi since 4.25 am. “The outage, has affected our 2G, 3G and WiMax services in Westlands, Karen, Langata, CBD and Kinoo Area,” noted Mr Nzioka.

“Safaricom engineers and technicians are busy addressing the problem, with a view to restoring all affected services within the shortest possible time. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this outage.”

During the power failure period, Safaricom subscribers could not make calls or even send SMS. Efforts to reach its Customer Contact Centre were futile too.
