Deputy President William Ruto has expressed confidence in the department of strategic initiative formed by government saying that it will address radicalisation and extremism of youth at the coast.
Speaking during the 45th graduation ceremony of the Shanzu teachers training college, the DP said that the initiative will seek to tame challenges of youth recruitment to splinter groups and also address cattle rustling challenges affecting the country. “We believe that with the necessary resources the department will deal with and eliminate the recruitment of youth into extremism and radicalisation by gangs in this region.”
On the public apology made by the President during his state of the nation address on Thursday, Mr Ruto said it was a rallying call to all Kenyans not be held back by the dark history of the country, adding Kenyans should build bridges and move together as one people.
“We have had our successes but we have also had our challenges and failures including the Wagalla massacre, the Nyayo torture chambers, political assassinations, and detentions without trial , but we should not be held hostage by our past. We must build bridges and move as one people,” said Ruto.
The DP was accompanied by MPs Gonzi Rai(Kinango), Peter Shehe(Ganze) , Ibrahim Sane(Garsen) and Kwale women representative Zainab Chidzuga.
