Political reporter Richard Chacha has finally left NTV. Chacha, who was NTV’s political editor, was one of the finest news reporters in Kenyan media.

Smriti Vidyarthi, one of Chacha’s colleagues at NTV, broke the news of his leaving when she posted a heartfelt goodbye message accompanied with a photo of the two them.

She posted: “It was our colleague, Richard Chacha’s last day at NMG today. Chacha, we love you and you truly are one in a million. A wonderful colleague, a great friend and a real fighter and survivor. God Bless you. All the best.”

Mr Chacha uses a wheel-chair to move around after a bad accident two years ago in which his now former boss, Mr Linus Kaikai, and number of other journalists were also injured when the car they were using rolled.

The accident happened in 2012 when a team of Nation Media Group journalists were on their way back to Nairobi from Narok after a fundraiser. Others who were involved in the accident were Ephantus Mwangi, Frida Kirema and Emmanuel Talam.

Mr Chacha, who was the driver of Mr Kaikai’s Prado TX, the most affected. He has never walked after accident which left him paralysed from the waist downwards, but he retained his great voice and job. He had to seek further treatment in India.

Nation Media Group has been hard pressed to explain his exit, with rumours flying around that Chacha had been fired because of his condition.
