Retired presidents are set to get more money for office renovations after President Uhuru Kenyatta signed Supplementary Appropriation Bill, 2015 into law.

“The Act authorises the release of Ksh 50.464 billion from the Consolidated Fund for utilisation by the Government in fulfilling its financial obligations for the remaining part of the financial year,” statement from the president’s communication unit reads in part.

Contained in the Act is Ksh250 million to be used to refurbish former President Mwai Kibaki’s Nyari Estate office block and Daniel Moi’s office at Kabarnet Gardens as well as for civil works in the presidency.

Treasury had earlier presented to Parliament a Ksh20 million supplementary budget for renovating the retired presidents’ offices. Kibaki’s office was bought by the government at a cost of Ksh 250 million while Moi uses his private office maintained by the tax payer.

Their retirement benefits are expected to go past President Uhuru and his deputy’s pay in the coming financial year.
