If necessity is the mother to invention, then Conjestina Achieng must be her worst child. Once a celebrity and queen of the ring, Conjestina is now a shell of her former self and athletic swag. A life of deprivation is punching her from every side while her guard appears to have run out of power .

Hey day buoyancy: Conjestina raring to go!

Boxed by life: Conjestina, frail and unstable, shadow-boxes for the camera.

Tuko journalist Gibendi Ramenya met her recently and shared her photos. She’s certainly weather-beaten and wasting away in the village. Worse, she has turned into an alcoholic.

“I met once feared queen of the ring Conjestina Achieng in her home county Siaya,” Ramenya says. “She said she drinks all day because she cannot afford to be sober and remember the celebrity she once was. Like me, she does not know where she went wrong or what went wrong.”

End of the road: Her shining star in boxing has dimmed.

It’s a shame that the government would let someone who flew the national flag in boxing to go to waste and wallow in poverty.
