Petrol and diesel prices have gone up by Sh3.54 and Sh4.14 respectively with the new prices set to remain in force from Sunday to June 14 this year. One litre of petrol will now cost Sh84.25 while diesel will retail at Sh70.37 in Nairobi.

The price of Kerosene also went up by Sh3.02 per litre and now will cost Sh46.98.

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said on Saturday it will convene a meeting in June to decide July prices.

ERC said the price of crude oil in the international market has risen from a low of Sh2,900 per barrel early this year to the current price of Sh4,700 per barrel, leading to an increase in the cost of refined products from early this year for diesel, kerosene and petrol.

“As the products take time to reach the local market, the impact of this change will begin to affect the local retail prices from this month,” said the ERC statement.

ERC said that the average landed cost of imported super petrol increased by 13.29 per cent from Sh41,700 per tonne in March this year to Sh47,295 in April.

Also, the average landed cost of imported diesel during the period increased by 16.06 per cent from Sh32,276 per tonne to Sh 37,460 that of imported Kerosene increased by 9.62 per cent from Sh37,928 per tonne to Sh41,575.
