New on Kempinski’s menu: Rooftop lounge and bar with a Mediterranean touch

Tambourin Rooftop Lounge & Bar is already the talk of town even before its official launch.
Perhaps because it’s not your usual restaurant. It’s a specialty place that blends many things, including unique cuisine, ambiance and a rare positioning that gives a breathtaking view of Nairobi.

With a sneak preview of what it has to offer, Nairobi is eagerly waiting for the latest addition to Villa Rosa Kempinski’s luxury brand. The rooftop lounge and bar opens its door to the public mid this month, but its plate is already full of admirers and positive reviews.

On a recent Wednesday evening, BusinessToday team toured the facility and had what turned out to be a taste of class packaged in the most authentic fashion.  “Tambourin is tastefully and artistically designed to offer a unique dining experience to guests who have an affinity for authentic, Levant cuisine that combines the old traditions of the eastern Mediterranean region and the modern touch of art,” says Roy Oscar, Tamborine manager.

It’s rich and sophisticated decor brings to life what a guest would see traveling through Mediterranean. And because it’s not so huge geographically, it leaves you lusting for more of its offerings. “With its stylistic design, guests can enjoy an unrivalled sundowner experience soaking in the warmth of the retreating sunrays, while smoking some of the finest shisha flavours,” he says.

The Nairobi middle-class tribe will find the place particularly exciting given its exclusivity and the air of relaxation that it offers, not so far from town and many other commercial suburbs of Nairobi yet far enough from the bustle and hustle of city to give patrons a sort of ‘out of town’ feel.

It’s soothing music and daily classic act performances by one of world’s most sought-after belly dancer with roots in Jordan but a native of Argentina, is perhaps the hallmark of the Tambourin. On this day the dance wasn’t around, but the mood had been set. The dancer, we are told, never disappoints.

The 96-seater lounge and bar combines various comfortable seating locations and scenarios including purposeful Majlis-style cabanas. “Tambourin is not just a specialty culinary wonder,” said Amit Sharma, the director food and beverages, “but a new tasteful recreational lounge & bar that will nurture the guest souls by providing a soothing, charming and relaxing environment.”
