Nakumatt has opened its 52nd branch ahead of Christmas holiday a move that maintains the regional retailer’s plan of investing in the coastal region.

The opening ceremony of the new branch was presided over by Mombasa senator Hassan Omar Hassan who urged investors not to shy away from investing in the region.

Located in Bamburi, the new branch cost Sh190 Million according to the supermarket’s MD Atul Shah who remained buoyant of the coastal business climate, terming the current security upheaval as a ‘passing cloud.’

“The prospects of economic recovery in the Kenyan coastal region are very bright for any investor who is seeking to play a development partner role with all Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and other neighbouring counties,” Shah said. “As Nakumatt opens its 52nd branch here in Mombasa, we are effectively confirming that we shall continue joining hands with the people of Mombasa to fuel development in this region.”

The new branch will come as a boon to the expansive Bamburi and Mtamboni estate residents who for long time have been forced to go shop in town or at Nakumatt Cinemax located in Nyali. The shoppers will enjoy the convenience of a well-stocked supermarket including an in store bakery.

The store is also been suitably outfitted with a range of energy efficient water cooled air-conditioning and refrigeration units as part of Nakumatt’s bid to cut its energy costs by more than 40% by the year 2017.

The retailer kicked off its energy management project during the opening of Nakumatt Malindi two years ago, the retailer is targeting operational cost savings of up to Kshs 800million through the use of new generation in store showcase units.

Shoppers will enjoy attractive shopping offers on household goods and electronics to mark the launch of the new branch which covers a shop floor area of more than 30,000 square feet.
