A joke gone bad! Instead of bursting out with laughter Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno was forced to slap senator Kipchumba Murkomen after a heated exchange at Wilson Airport in Nairobi on Friday over a joke fell flat.
Mr Ng’eno said trouble began when he asked, tongue in cheek, the Elgeyo Marakwet senator if money he had was from the National Youth Service. “I asked him if the money he was carrying was the NYS money that went missing,” Mr Ng’eno said during an interview on Citizen TV.
“Instead of confirming or denying the allegations he started coming for me until I sought refuge. He could have landed on me.”
The two were on their way to Kericho County where Deputy President William Ruto is leading campaigns for Jubilee Senator candidate Aaron Cheruiyot. Mr Murkomen, whom former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru mentioned in an affidavit on the Ksh791 million NYS scandal, denied the allegations. “Ng’eno is hallucinating because he has given two versions of the story to Citizen and Nation Media Group. I am a leader who cannot engage in physical confrontations,” Mr Murkomen was quoted as saying by the Star.
“I am schooled and I do not use fists to solve problems, I use my brains.”
Ms Waiguru claimed Murkomen threatened her against pursuing investigations. She said he told her to tell the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to drop the investigations into the scandal or “face unspecified consequences if I did not adhere to these demands”.
Mr Murkomen denied the allegations saying the former Cabinet Secretary was engaging in “sideshow tactics” and should have responded to suspect Josephine Kabura’s affidavit against her.
