UoN suspends 62 students over anti-Babu riots

The University of Nairobi has suspended 62 students for participating in the recent unrest and destruction of public property after the botched SONU elections. The management of the university, which was closed on April 5th the after three days of violent protests at the main campus,  said disciplinary action had been initiated on the suspended students.

A section of the students were protesting the win by Babu Owino of the SONU chairmanship, accusing the university’s polls body of rigging him in. But the protests spilled over into the streets where students stoned motorists and looted shops before turning on the university and burning down SONU offices.

The students are required to collect their suspension letters from the Registrar of Students’ Affairs, latest by Friday, April 15, 2016, according to a memo posted on the university’s website by Vice Chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi.  Here below is the list of the suspended students:
