A new television station will joining the growing broadcast industry on Saturday, August 13th this year. The TV station, whose name is still under wraps, is expected to focus on entertainment in a niche it will battle out for eyeballs with a number of digital TVs including Kiss TV.
The TV entertainment market remains largely untapped, though, and the new entrant gets the audience targeting right, it could sway viewership. Kiss TV has been running on entertainment but has yet to full commercialise its station as most advertisers in Kenya believe in prime time viewership and special programming such as soap operas, comedy and skits.
While information about the TV is scanty, it has hinted at giving talented Kenyans a platform to be stars.
It is understood the new television station, will will run alongside a radio station, is being set up by city tycoon, Joe Kariuki who is the owner of Candy and Candy records and Amsha Mama. The Amsha mama initiative traversed the Kenyan countryside, giving soft loans to Kenyan women, boosting business and giving food to the less fortunate.

It is likely to be based in Eldoret but its not clear whether it will broadcast nationally. The the station will be targeting the untapped niche in remote areas by providing a platform to undiscovered talent that never makes it to the silver screen. Over 200 artists in Eldoret alone have signed up for the platform with more expected to sign up in Mombasa, Nairobi, Meru and Nakuru, Tuko.co.ke reported.
Details of the launch are being shared online in bits. Sources say the launch will be huge.
