The High Court has lifted orders that had stopped the trial of celebrated TV personality Jeff Koinange and businessman Tony Gachoka on charges of defamation.

Justice Weldon Korir today said Koinange and Gachoka will now have to answer to defamation charges in the case that had been filed by businessman Jimi Wanjigi and his brother Sani Mbui Wanjigi, reports Tuko.co.ke.

Korir lifted the orders following an application by Nicholas Nyamai, representing the Wanjigis. The orders had been issued in June 10.

Koinange and Gachoka had been slapped with Ksh2 million fine or a six-month jail term for c***************t after ignoring orders barring them from discussing a company owned by the Wanjigis on TV.

Mr Wanjigi had sued Koinange and Gachoka for allegedly linking his law firm, Kwach Group of Companies, to the Anglo-Leasing s*****l that saw taxpayers lose more than Ksh50 billion in irregular contracts awarded by the government.

The court had heard that the discussing the company on TV caused massive losses and the owners are thus demanding Ksh 60 million in damages for defamation.
