CNN gaffe: Is Kenya really a t*******m hotbed?

CNN has done it again. This time it has referred to Kenya as a “t****r hotbed” ahead of US President Barack Obama’s tour from tomorrow. Kenyan journalists have reacted angrily to the tag, saying the phrase is very sensational.

But is it? Isn’t Kenya, in fact, a t****r hotbed or even more?

By definition hotbed is an environment promoting the growth of something, especially something unwelcome. For example, “the country was a hotbed of revolt and dissension”. T****r thrives in Kenya, doesn’t it?

Synonyms of the word hotbed are breeding ground, nursery, cradle, nest, den, seedbed and forcing house. Most of these words fit the CNN description. Well, perhaps.

True it maybe but it’s really not a politically correct statement to come from a global media house like CNN, especially when the world’s most powerful man has given Kenya a vote of confidence.

Here is sample of comments on Facebook from Kenyan journalists

Ustadh Kapchanga: Nothing positive on Kenya coming out of CNN Newsroom this morning. We must be s**k of this television station.
Kamau Kanyi: CNN is a home of hot air Journalism.
Dennis Mangoa Mosota: They are really irritating!
Raymond Mtetezi: These guys, ati t****r hot bed nkt CNN my foot
Timothy Barasa: hii ni sensationalism nothing to be taken serious ……..they have their own interests.
