Closing Bell: Unga Group shares up as demand rises

Turnover at the NSE rose to Ksh1.87BN from the previous session’s Ksh721M, with the number of shares traded standing at 105M against 28M posted yesterday. The NSE 20 Share Index shed 11.83 points to stand at 4,343.16. All Share Index (NASI) eased 0.79 points to stand at 146.25.

The biggest gainers were Unga Group, CIC Insurance, National Bank of Kenya, CfC and Uchumi, boosted by increased demand, while the losers were Kakuzi, Pan Africa Insurance, KCB, I&M and ICDC.
In Agricultural Sector, Williamson Tea was down five shillings to Ksh390.00, moving 1,000 shares. Sasini moved 20,000 shares and closed at Ksh16.00.

The Banking Sector had 13M shares traded and represented 12.41% of the day’s traded volume. Equity Group Holdings actively moved 7.5M shares at between Ksh38.00 and Ksh39.25. KCB moved 4.7M shares and ended the day at Ksh47.00.

Commercial & Services Sector moved 1.2M shares, which accounted for 1.14% of the day’s traded volume. Kenya Airways touched a high of Ksh5.50 and a low of Ksh5.30 on a volume of 1.1M shares. Nation Media Group ended two shillings lower to Ksh187.00 on a volume of 700 shares.

Energy & Petroleum Sector moved 4.5M shares, which accounted for 4.30% of the day’s traded volume. Kenya Power was the most heavily traded counter in this sector, with 3.7M shares changing hands at between Ksh15.80 and Ksh16.00. KenolKobil moved 722,000 shares and closed at Ksh8.35.

Up 2% to Ksh7.60, CIC Insurance Group moved 246,000 shares. Manufacturing & Allied Sector moved 367,000 shares, which represented 0.35% of the day’s traded volume. Mumias Sugar & EA Breweries remained firm to trade at Ksh1.90 on 357,000 shares and Ksh295.00 on 6,000 shares respectively.

Safaricom declined to Ksh14.00 on a volume of 85M shares, from Ksh14.15 posted the previous session.
