Cases challenging “draconian” media laws have been consolidated.

The suits, which are being heard by a three-judge bench headed by Justice Isaac Lenaola, will now be heard on February 17.

Others hearing the case at the High Court in Milimani, Nairobi, are judges Mumbi Ngugi and George Odunga.

Kenya Editors Guild, Kenya Union of Journalists, Kenya Correspondents Association and the Media Council of Kenya say the Kenya Information and Communication (Amendment) Act and the Media Council Act of 2013 hurt media freedom.

Together with the Nation Media Group, Standard Group and Royal Media Services, they want the laws declared null and void.
