First Lady’s Beyond Zero campaign by Impact Africa scoops top award in the not-for-profit category
Communications firm, Apex Porter Novelli, won this year’s overall PR Campaign of the Year for its European Union-Kenya Partnership Visibility Campaign with the European Union Delegation to Kenya.
Meanwhile, the public relations firm behind First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero Campaign on child and maternal health emerged top in this year’s Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) Excellence Awards. The campaign by Impact Africa scooped the top award in the Not for Profit category.
The awards were announced at the PRSK gala dinner at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Friday night. The Beyond Zero Campaign, whose slogan is “Inspiring Action, Changing Lives”, was planned by Impact Africa public relations firm headed by Mrs Kentice Tikolo. The campaign has used sporting events like First Lady Half Marathon and London Marathon, among its tactics.
The awards received 59 entries and following adjudication by a panel of judges, 13 winners were drawn from academia, private and public organisations. The Beyond Zero Campaign has seen 16 fully-equipped mobile clinics handed to county governments across the country to boost delivery of services to mothers.
The campaign, which aims at getting the mobile clinics in all the 47 counties, has shown that public private partnerships can go a long way in improving the health of women and children. The First Lady was named the United Nations in Kenya Person of the Year 2014 for her efforts to stop preventable maternal and newborn deaths in the country through the Beyond Zero Campaign.She was selected for successfully raising awareness and funds to address the plight of women and children and in need of quality health care.
